This Tech Changed F1 Forever | Pneumatic Valve Springs Explained!
Modern Formula 1 engines are engineering marvels that can produce over 1,000 horsepower from just 1.6 liters of displacement. Relying on technologies such as turbocharging, and a hybrid-electric powertrain (MGU-H and MGU-K), another fascinating element of these engines is their lack of traditional valve springs. First introduced by Renault in the Lotus 98T driven by Ayrton Senna and Johnny Dumfries, pneumatic valve springs have allowed F1 engines to rev higher, make more power, and are still in use today. In this video, we’ll explore why they were invented, how they work, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of their use.

In many motorsports, victory can be decided by fractions of a second gained or lost during a pit stop. Pit stops involve talented athletes and mechanics who appear to effortlessly lift a car, change tires, and refuel in the blink of an eye. It’s a lot to take in, and many people don’t even consider the complexity of the specialized tools used to service a race car. This video explains the mecha...
The WILD Antics of Penske's Trans-Am Race Team!

    Penske and Chevrolet weren't the only ones acid dipping, most of the rest of the competition did it too. Sam Posey tells of the time his team left the body in the acid bath a bit too long. No problem until an official who had been looking over the car leaned on the roof with his elbow and it just buckled. "Oh, what's this" he said, we can't have this! Team Posey got permission from Chrysler Corp. to go to a local dealer and cut the roof off a showroom car and put it on the race car to get through tech inspection. Trans Am, with its strong factory backing at that time, tried anything they thought they could get away with to improve their chances!

    Nice insight on every major racing series. As a Bangladeshi 🇧🇩, motorsport culture isn't big here. It has very niche fandom (we have Avik Anwar who races in UAE 🇦🇪 organized races), perceived to be a rich man's sport because of it's barrier to entry involving a vehicle. From 20 years ago, I have casually watched almost all the racing series you mentioned here except the Mazda series maybe. Been watching Formula E since around 2015, awaiting this series to become the pinnacle because FE is great to watch from an Engineering perspective.

    I still have some questions so I might need to do more research. How does the engine exhaust gas reach the jet as off throttle the engine would be creating no exhaust gas? Wouldn't the jet need a constant stream of fuel rich exhaust gas to fuel it's combustion? If it is just a small amount of scavenged exhaust used by the jet, does this mean the engine runs rich constantly in order to supply the jet with a fuel rich mixture off throttle? If anyone could answer these questions I'd appreciate it.

    First introduced by Renault in the Lotus. To be more precised, a Matra and Renault invention. Because this invention is stock and displayed in the Matra museum in France. Back then Matra was still this amazing engineering compagny, which had a great competitions history. Often forgotten nowadays. Matra had the advantages, to work in so many types of industries, which allowed them very excellent engineering in different domains.

    The reign of Toyota and the rest of Japan ended because the West killed the Japanese economy for second time in a period of 100 years. Japan left the West in the dust in the 1890s and 1980s by the rules of Capitalism. Then, the West changed the rules. Japan is a special case, because it defeated the Western world at their own game not once, but twice! Japanese success revealed the true face of the West. West is the epitome of Narcissism. Narcissists are predators of Human Kind. Narcissists cannot co exist with different worlds, which is why they exterminate those. Japan has never recovered from the hit. The West is very rich. Josep Borell stated at the Academy of the European Diplomacy, that the West had to bring the ingredients back from the Jungle in order to build the garden. Africa is still trying to kick out the West and gain its sovereignty from the colonialists. World Economic Forum and Klaus Schwab invited Chinese Communists in Berlin at 1979. He instructed the IRON LADY to award the Communists by ceding Hong Kong. Before the Western attack Toyota was experimenting with SCCI engines and planned to enter the aerospace sector.

    Cool! I think they used same kind of system or some kind of a hybrid in Rally cross and for example VW Polo WRC as the antilag was running whole time from start to finish line and was more like buzzin than banging, letting the Turbo have maximum pressure when ever needed but that was controlled like the Subaru pro drive system was, perhaps a cheaper evolution version of the rocket antilag. Im only guessing, but i may have ran inside the Turbo down pipe burning a flame there to create vacuum to suck the turbo in motion, resulting cooler running turbo to make more power as the cooler the air, the more the power.

    Who knows? We might even see some solenoid actuators that function as valve springs, camshafts, and rocker arms to the point of replacing all three simultaneously, similar to what Koenigsegg is doing with its freevalve technology.

    • @TarenGarond
      @TarenGarond 3 дня назад

      FreeValve uses normal coil springs but also pnenumatic(air) springs to close the valves, a pneumatic(air) cylinder to open the valve and and a hydraulic cylinder for valve position hold and damping. A spectacular system, but still with serious flaws(Must choose from either slow actuation with "acceptable" power draw or fast actuation with massive power draw). Doubt it(Or any other "free-valve"-system(Not including MultiAir here) have practical uses on automotive applications(Hydraulic valves are used on some massive low rev marine two-stroke engines though).

    The "New Mini" is no Mini at all. The key design element was the size, the "new" Minis are just vaguely styled on the original and copy a few elements. Even small cars are big these days because of safety regulations. They should have left the mini name alone if it can't truly be "mini". The size comparisons are laughable and that's before you even get to the AWD/"Clubman" behemoths. Don't get me wrong, the new version is a neat car, the looks are great and they handle vaguely reminiscent of the classic but they are not a true successor by any stretch of the imagination. BMWs not Minis.
